Take the med. Your doctor would not give you something that would hurt you. Quit worrying and think how much better your skin is going to look.

If you define walking out your front door as “dangerous,” then yes, medications are dangerous.
What you really want to know is HOW dangerous something is. Please ask your doctor this question. Systemic antibiotics is a common second-line strategy in treating severe acne, but you need to know HOW much of a potential risk you are taking, as well as HOW much you stand to gain.
After all, hypothetically, if you are going to be 100% better and only have a 1% chance of having mild side effects, you would have to be an idiot not to do it. On the other hand, if you will only get 10% better but there is a 100% chance you will lose your left leg, you would have to be an idiot to do it.
Ask your doctor these questions to get a sense of how much the risks and benefits are. Do not ask people here, because they are not responsible for telling you–your doctor is.

Losing a few zits are not balanced by risks of chronic systemic administration of a powerful antibiotic like doxycycline If you have cystic acne you require more aggressive **topical** treatment like retinoic acid. Teracyclines can discolor unsprouted teeth. They deposit in bone. Use only when indicated. Is it indicated?
As with nasal decongestants, it makes no sense to pop a pill and also decongest your left foot and right buttock unless there is a compelling reason to do so. Give your nose a squirt of Afrin. Address the zits locally unless medically contraindicated.

Systemic antibiotics are often indicated in high grade acne.

my boyfriend took one in jr high, called accutane, he said it made his whole body dry up. He had to wear lip balm other wise his lips would peel. Just wear lotion, maybe your med is different, some people have side effects that others don’t have.

These are questions and concerns you should direct to your doctor. All good doctors don’t mind when a patient expresses their concerns.

Have you tried Proactive Solution? It really works if you do it faithfully. The pill you are talking about is an antibiotic. There are side effects to all pills. Try the Proactive first.
